Day 5 and 6 in the Step-Down Unit

(Brandon writing) Days 5 and 6 were good days for Noah, and his condition remains largely the same. He is still being weaned off the morphine and learning how to take the bottle. At the rate being taken right now, we think that Noah will be off the morphine on Saturday. From there, Noah will let us know when he is ready to go home by how quickly he eats as much as he ought. He did take a good amount several times today, but he needs to eat even more and do that consistently before we can move to breastfeeding. When that goes well, we should be able to go home. The only "downer" of the past two days is that Noah's oxygen saturation levels dropped a couple of times, sometimes needing a little bit of oxygen to bring his levels back up. However, Lauren spoke with the doctor today, and the doctor was not concerned by the desaturations. They appear to be the mixture of Noah sleeping deeply and being on morphine. The nurses will continue to monitor the levels over the next couple of days. So, Momma Lauren is staying with her baby boy again tonight to be with him.

Our prayer requests would be:
1. that we would be patient! We'd like to be home as soon as possible, but we have to wait on Noah to be ready.
2. that Noah's oxygen levels would stay stable, even when in deep sleep.
3. that Noah could be weaned consistently every day off the morphine so that he can be done with that as soon as possible. The morphine slows his system down and so slows his progress down.
4. that Noah could progress through bottle feeding and onto breast feeding soon.
5. that God would be glorified continually through this time. He's been so good to us, continually answering our prayers and encouraging us by the love He's shown to us through all those faithful brothers and sisters who pray for Noah.
