Day 15, 16, 17, and 18 in the NICU

Yeah for Panera! Free internet access! So, the last several days have been incredibly encouraging. However, nothing compares to today thus far. Today, Noah was finally taken off his ventilator. Praise the Lord, O my soul! The discussion had come up two days ago and today, the doctors felt that Noah could handle the transition from a machine breathing for him to breathing on his own. The transition really could not have gone better. Noah is doing so well with breathing, that the nurse said he may be weened off his oxygen entirely by tomorrow.

We cannot express our great joy in the blessing of this day. Not only was this the first day of his life that Noah has not had a tube down his throat, but this is also the first time since his birth that we have heard Noah cry. What a glorious sound!

Our son is also looking better and better every day. If I have time tonight I will try to post some pictures. He has so far kept his blue eyes from his Dad and has a lot of his Mom's facial features.

So, the game plan from here is that Noah will continue to be weaned off his oxygen. Also, he must be weaned off his morphine- our son is already a little drug addict at 2 1/2 weeks old. He has been on sedatives his whole life so he could tolerate the equipment he was on that was preserving his life. Finally, Noah must learn how to eat. He has never had a bottle or Mom (you know what I mean), so he has to learn how to do those things before he can come home with us. Wow! 'Come home with us' sounds incredibly beautiful.

So, since your prayers are obviously working!!!, please continue to pray that:
1. Noah would never, ever have to be put on a ventilator ever again (at least until old age)
2. Noah could learn how to eat
3. Noah would be able to tolerate life without his morphine
4. Noah could come home soon
5. Praise Noah's Creator who has granted Noah and his parents, and all of us this day of celebration
